Job summary

These posts provide a unique opportunity to joinour innovative and expanding infection department. We welcome applicants witheither CCT in Microbiology or joint CCT in infectious Diseases and Microbiology.This is a replacement post offered at 10 PAs full time, though part timeapplicants with pro - rata on call will be considered.

The post holder willbe responsible for contributing to our 24-hour Clinical Infection Servicealongside a strong multidisciplinary team including a consultant Antimicrobial Pharmacistand Antimicrobial Pharmacy team.

Infection services inthe trust encompass a wide range of complex and interesting cases including TheMid Yorkshire Regional Adult Burns Centre and Regional Childrens Burns Unitand Yorkshire Regional Spinal Injuries Centre.

Our Trust recentlyattained Teaching status. As part ofour journey to University Hospital status, the Trust has a strategic priorityto increase our number of clinical academic positions, we would welcomeapplicants who have an aspiration to adopt a clinical academic role in future.

Main duties of the job

Provision of clinicaladvice from within the Trust, primary care and other healthcare colleagues inour region

Authorisation andinterpretation of laboratory results

Supervision and liaisonwith the laboratory team

Working effectively with juniorinfection specialist colleagues, the pharmacy team and regional infectionspecialist colleagues

Infection prevention andcontrol advice - with opportunity to take up Trust infection control roles e.g.DIPC

Liaising with the localUKHSA team for notifiable diseases/organisms and participation in mandatorysurveillance

Multidisciplinary meetings including haematology, orthopaedics, infection control, regional burns centreand intensive care

Developing servicesincluding outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT), undergraduateteaching and research

On-call duties currentlyshared on a 1 in 4 basis

Duties will be based primarily onour Pinderfields hospital site in Wakefield although all our medical staff areinvolved in delivering care to patients on all our 3 hospital sites.

In addition to routine infectioncare, there are opportunities to be involved in a number of different areas ofcare delivery in the Trust, by arrangement with the clinical lead:

Specific leadershipof a clinical area - to be agreed after discussion with colleagues, including:

o Haematology

o Orthopaedics

o Burns

o Infection control

o Water safety,theatre ventilation and food safety leads

o Antimicrobialstewardship (alongside our AMS pharmacy team)

o Community IVantibiotic provision

o Research

With evolution of the service there is a potentialfuture opportunity to be involved with the delivery of TBand Non-tuberculous mycobacteria infection care. Opportunities alsoexist to develop services in HIV and infectiousdiseases. Initially it is expected that this role willbe distributed to largely deliver medical microbiologyrelated care (including e.g. OPAT, bone and joint infection), withopportunity to discuss ongoing arrangementsafter appointment.

In addition, this post could run in tandemwith a Clinical Academic position, if the opportunity arises.
