Job summary

Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine (single specialty or dual with anaesthesia, acute, respiratory or renal medicine)

The Critical Care Consultant rota at East Kent Critical Care expanded from January 2022 from a 1:8 to a 1:12 rota to support the increase in bed capacity to 24 beds. The junior doctor rota has also increased from two tiers to three tiers. Appointees to a dual specialty role will work a split of 5 PAs in ICM, 3 PAs in the second specialty (with up to 2 additional PAs available), and 2 SPA. Total workload is 10 PAs, maximum 12.

Main duties of the job

Role Specific Duties:

1. Provide a Consultant-delivered service in the Critical Care department.
2. Assist the Critical Care Outreach Team in the care of critically ill patients on the general wards.
3. Contribute to teaching and supervision of Critical Care trainees.
4. Participate in the dedicated intensive care on-call rota (on-call for this post is only for intensive care).
5. Participate in the department's monthly morbidity and mortality review.
6. Cross-site working at Canterbury or Margate units is encouraged and supported. Regular job-planned activity on other sites is available. All new appointees should be available to work across sites in case of staff shortages.
