Job Description:

We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department.

The Intensive Care Unit currently comprises a 20-bedded Adult Unit which can flexibly supply both Level 3 and Level 2 care. It has approximately 600 admissions per year that are both surgical and medical in origin. The Intensive Care Unit functions as a closed unit with close ties to other intensive care facilities through the North West Thames Critical Care Network. It is recognized as a unit performing to the highest standards and has been in receipt of 2 Charter Mark Awards and a Customer Service Excellence award over the last 12 years as well as a CQC Outstanding rating in 2020. The unit has an enviable reputation in terms of both teaching and research and these are regarded as strengths it would continue to prioritise.

The successful appointee will be asked to undertake various duties within the department, including:

1. Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
2. Support and join activities on the ICU including quarterly M&M, Board meetings, weekly Mortality reviews (concurrent with MDT), and twice yearly cross-site clinical governance meetings.
3. Join MDT meetings to discuss long-term patients on Wednesday afternoons in the non-ICU cover weeks.
4. Play a leading role in the development and support of services within the umbrella of Critical Care.
5. Assist in teaching duties with junior medical staff within the department.
