Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

The successful applicant will join an experienced consultant team delivering the paediatric cardiology service and will be supported in their professional development, including opportunities to participate in joint cardiology clinics with Birmingham Children 's Hospital.

The postholder will be involved in stabilising acutely unwell children requiring intensive care transfer.

We provide clinical support and access to HDU and inpatient care for sick and complex children and those requiring long stay admission from the Children 's Assessment Unit at Good Hope Hospital (CAU GHH). There is integration and co-operation between consultant and nursing teams across sites with frequent transfer of patients to Heartlands from Good Hope Site. Consultants work a ' Consultant of the Week ' model, covering HDU and the inpatient ward as first on-call, or the Paediatric Assessment Unit, ambulatory and short-stay admissions as second on-call. Weekday daytime cover is 08:30-17:00.

The team also provides shared care with surgical specialties, mental health services and community partners, supporting children with complex and life-limiting conditions within a multidisciplinary team. Two weeks per year will be spent on the CAU BHH, Monday-Friday, as the weekday on‑call consultant.
