Job summary

Applications are invited for a Consultant in Emergency Medicine based at Mid Cheshire Hospital in Crewe. The Emergency Department, Division of Medicine and Emergency Care, comprises 11 Consultants (including this post), supported by 5 Specialty Doctors, 6 Specialist Trainees, 6 GPSTs, 3 Foundation Year 2 Doctors, and Advanced Clinical Practitioners.

The ED is a busy, accredited trauma unit providing acute emergency services for Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, serving a catchment population of around 300,000. It is a proactive, progressive department with a young, dynamic Consultant team with interests including paediatric emergency medicine and education. We continually develop our emergency services through flow initiatives, evidence-based pathways, and new skills such as stroke thrombolysis and paediatric procedural sedation.

The successful applicant must have full GMC registration and a valid Licence to Practise. They should also be on the Specialist Register or within six months of completing their CCT.

Shortlisted candidates will be expected to visit the department prior to interview. The proposed AAC date is 17.07.2025.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of patients in the ED and will:

1. Share responsibility with Consultant colleagues for Emergency Medicine services for the local population.
2. Foster relationships within the ED, Division of Medicine, and with other healthcare professionals.

Additional expectations include working flexibly to ensure high-quality care by:

• Meeting local and national standards and targets.
• Following policies for communication with GPs and patients.
• Optimally utilizing all allocated resources.

Qualifications (Essential)

• Full GMC Registration
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT in Emergency Medicine (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview), CESR, or European Community Rights
• FRCEM or equivalent
• Current ALS, ATLS, and/or ETC & APLS and/or EPLS provider certificates

Qualifications (Desirable)

• Royal College of Radiologists Level 1 in Emergency Ultrasound
• Dual accreditation in Emergency Medicine and Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, or Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine; other dual accreditations considered

Experience (Essential)

• Broad experience in Emergency Medicine

Experience (Desirable)

• Experience in critical care, acute medicine, pre-hospital emergency medicine, and/or paediatrics

Abilities (Essential)
