Job description

Job overview:

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Emergency Medicine (8 PAs).
You already know that Emergency Medicine is the most rewarding and challenging specialty, and you have already proven that you are a great emergency physician!
Now come and join our team as a consultant in a world-class hospital with a sustainable working pattern and in a place that will provide you and your family with every opportunity to grow and develop.

Welcome to Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust!

Main duties of the job:

You will be joining a friendly and supportive team of over 27 WTE Consultants working on an annualised rota to provide the full spectrum of Emergency Care within the Emergency Department at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (CUH). This is a busy, acute hospital, a specialist tertiary referral centre and one of the best performing regional Major Trauma Centres with one of the lowest mortality ratios in the UK. You will be supported by a dynamic and highly motivated Nursing team, an inspiring cadre of training and career grade Doctors, Emergency Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Care Practitioners and the full range of in-patient acute specialties.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and will have either a CCT in Emergency Medicine or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

As part of our commitment to supporting the medical workforce in the part they play in delivering an excellent caring service to patients, all newly appointed Consultants attend our five-day Consultant Development programme within a year of joining the Trust. Leadership is a key requirement of doctors’ professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.

Working for your organisation:

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Applications from job seekers who require skilled worker sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications.

It is a requirement for skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, to present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an Equal Opportunities Employer.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Your work-life balance needs to take priority. Living in the East of England and working in Cambridge will allow you to combine your specialist clinical practice with a lifestyle that you choose – ranging from the intellectual stimulation and modern living associated with Cambridge City, Silicon Fen and the University to the semi-rural idyll of the surrounding villages. All with easy and rapid transport access to London and the Midlands.

Come and talk to us about joining our team.

Sub-specialist interests in Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine are well-established and additional personal interests in Academic Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Ultrasound, Medicine for Elderly (DME), Minor Injuries, Health Service management and Medical Education can all be supported.
