Now is a really exciting time to join our team of forward-thinking Ageing & Complex Medicine (Elderly Medicine) Consultants at Wrightington Wigan and Leigh (WWL) NHS Foundation Trust, and make a real difference to our elderly patients in the Wigan Borough.
Here at WWL, we put the patient at the heart of everything we do, striving to deliver and develop our modern and comprehensive Elderly Care service. We welcome applications from those with a developed sub-specialty interest within Elderly Care, and those interested in developing one through in-house training and CPD activities. Opportunities are available across inpatient and outpatient settings, with support from the clinical director and divisional management team to build and develop your area of interest.

The full-time post offers a 10 PA job plan, with potential for additional PAs on an individual basis. The needs of our patients are central to our work, and we are committed to the wellbeing of our clinical teams. The Trust supports flexible working options, subject to eligibility criteria.
There is a commitment for night and weekend on-call duties in general medicine and as part of the day service.
The Trust boasts excellent postgraduate and research facilities, supports study leave for CPD, and provides funding up to an agreed limit. WWL NHS Foundation Trust is an associated teaching hospital of Edge Hill University and provides training for two Specialist Registrars as part of the Northwest Training rotation, including an MSc in Elderly Care Medicine.

Our Ageing and Complex Medicine Directorate includes six substantive Consultants, one Associate Specialist, and three Specialist Registrars. The successful candidate will join a team of 6 consultants, contributing expertise in Acute Geriatric Medicine and sub-specialties including Stroke Medicine, Orthogeriatrics, and Frailty Services.
The directorate manages 81 acute Care of Elderly beds, supported by a multidisciplinary team. Services include general clinics and specialist clinics for Stroke, TIA, Falls, Parkinson’s, and Dementia, along with community services and proactive case management.
WWL is a trauma center offering comprehensive trauma and orthopedic services, with acute trauma work primarily at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan.
