Join our team of forward-thinking Ageing & Complex Medicine (Elderly Medicine) Consultants at Wrightington Wigan and Leigh (WWL) NHS Foundation Trust, and make a real difference to our elderly patients in the Wigan Borough.

We prioritize patient-centered care and are committed to developing our Elderly Care services. We welcome applicants with existing sub-specialty interests or those interested in developing one through in-house training and CPD activities. Opportunities are available in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with support from the clinical director and management team.

Main duties of the job

This is a full-time position offering a 10 PA job plan, with potential for additional PAs. We value our staff's wellbeing and offer flexible working options. The role involves night and weekend on-call duties in general medicine and day services.

The Trust supports postgraduate and research activities, including study leave and funding for CPD. As an associated teaching hospital of Edge Hill University, we offer training for Specialist Registrars, including an MSc in Elderly Care Medicine.

On-Call

Senior roles (AFC band 8A or above) may participate in on-call rotas.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The directorate has a team of six consultants, one Associate Specialist, and three Specialist Registrars, covering 81 beds in various Elderly Care units. The team provides comprehensive services, including clinics for Stroke, TIA, Falls, Parkinson’s, and Dementia, as well as community services with MDT meetings and home visits. WWL is a trauma center offering orthopaedic and trauma care.

  • Full GMC registration and license to practice
  • MB ChB or equivalent
