A major teaching hospital in Leeds is seeking a Consultant in Clinical Oncology specializing in Breast Radiotherapy and Urology. This substantive 10 PA position involves supporting experienced Oncology teams and engaging in clinical research and teaching. Applicants should hold FRCR or equivalent, and prior clinical experience in oncology is essential. There are flexible working options available. Thisis a substantive 10 PA Clinical Oncology Consultant post with a specialinterest in Breast and Urological cancers, delivering radiotherapy only forBreast cancers, and delivering both systemic therapy and radiotherapy forUrological cancers. The post will support established and experiencedmulti-disciplinary non-surgical Oncology Breast and Urological teams. The Breastwork will be delivered both at the Leeds Cancer Centre. The Urology work will bebased at Mid-Yorkshire Foundation Trust.
Therewill be opportunities to contribute to Breast and Urology MDTs and departmentalmeetings, as well as teaching, research and service developments. This is anexciting time to join our Breast and Urology services as we are currentlylooking at pathway redesigns and developing the services and the wider team.

Thesuccessful applicant should possess FRCR (or equivalent) and should be includedon the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview,if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointmentregulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the SpecialistRegister.
Applicants should haveestablished skills in Clinical Oncology and its related specialties, including Breastand Urological cancers. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduateteaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicantswho wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

This is a 10 PAconsultant appointment for a Consultant Clinical Oncologist, with a specialinterest in Urological and Breast cancers. The Urology aspect of this postwould be based at Mid-Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. The Breast radiotherapyaspect of the post would be based within the Leeds Cancer Centre, Bexley Wing,St James University Hospital.
The post holder willprovide non-surgical management, radiotherapy and SACT for patients with Urologicalcancers, and radiotherapy treatment for Breast cancers. The successfulcandidate will work alongside the Clinical Oncology Urology team led by Dr JojiJoseph (supported by Dr Ann Henry, Dr David Bottomley, Dr Tanzeel Janjua, DrJuliette Anderson, Dr Rob Turner, Dr Sree Rodda, Dr Lisa Owen, Dr Emma Dugdale,Dr Finn Slevin, Dr Lisa Joseph and Consultant Radiographer - Sean Ralph). Thesuccessful candidate will also work alongside the non-surgical Oncology Breastteam which is led by Dr David Jackson and is supported by Professor ChrisTwelves, Professor Galina Velikova, Dr Indu Chaudhuri, Dr Andrew Viggars, DrKhallol Bhadra and Dr Keren OConnor. The appointed consultant will prepare andsupervise radiotherapy for their own patients. Consultant colleagues will coverradiotherapy tasks during periods of leave. The Breast service receivesapproximately 1623 new patient referrals per year for radiotherapy treatment.The Urology service receives approximately 240 new patient referrals per yearfor radiotherapy treatment (excluding Prostate cancers). It is anticipated thatthe successful candidate will see approximately 126 new patient per year.
As part of the Trustsresource commitment, the post holder will have access to secretarial assistanceas required, and will be supplied with adequate office space and IT equipmentto support fulfilling their job plan. We are happy to discuss opportunities forflexible working, subject to service needs.
The Bexley Wing is one ofthe largest oncology facilities in the UK, within one of the largest acutegeneral hospitals in Europe. There are350 beds, day-care and out-patient facilities and a patient hotel. The BexleyWing incorporates services in non-surgical oncology, haematology, the AcademicUnit clinical offices and support areas and substantial services in cancersurgery. There is a dedicated Clinical Research Facility for patients inearly-phase clinical trials.
Clinical and MedicalOncology are based in the Bexley Wing, and run as an integrated service withina single bed base, and integrated site specialist teams. The service providescomprehensive non-surgical oncology services to the Trust and to the populationof West and the majority of North Yorkshire.They are key components of the Leeds Cancer Centre. There is a hub and spoke arrangement with thesurrounding cancer units in Airedale, Bradford, Dewsbury, Halifax, Harrogate,Huddersfield, Pontefract, Wakefield and York.This covers a population of approximately 2.7 million. In addition, there are other tertiaryreferrals from a more extensive catchment area from East Yorkshire, East Lancashireand North Yorkshire.
The Leeds radiotherapyservice treats over 7000 new patients a year with radiotherapy. The departmenthas twelve linear accelerators. There are three CT simulators and an MRIsimulator. The building houses a dedicated brachytherapy suite containing twotheatres. Shielded treatment rooms on the wards support unsealed sourcetherapy. There are dedicated clinical cancer research facilities with beds anda nursing research team. The links to the Academic Unit of Cancer Medicine arestrong and there are world class molecular oncology labs and research programmeson site. The Leeds radiotherapy service has a workforce which includes 135radiographers, 10 nurses, 32 clinical scientists and 62 clinical technologists.
