Job summary
We are seeking to appoint full-time consultants in anaesthetics at Colchester Hospital to support the opening of the new Essex and Suffolk Elective Orthopaedic Centre (ESEOC).
The ESEOC, opened in October 2024 within the Dame Clare Marx Building on the Colchester site, features eight operating theatres and three wards dedicated to elective orthopaedic surgery, making it one of the largest units in Europe. It will serve patients from Suffolk and Essex, with an anticipated 10,000 cases annually.
ESNEFT has achieved accreditation as a regional hub for revision knee surgery and aims to become a major centre for hip revision surgery as the network develops.
Applicants with a special interest in orthopaedic anaesthesia are particularly encouraged, but applications from those with other specialist interests will also be considered.
The roles involve on-call and elective commitments at Colchester Hospital, with opportunities within vascular and paediatric anaesthesia.
The successful candidate will support the expansion of elective orthopaedic surgery at ESEOC, primarily based at Colchester. The on-call duties are at Colchester Hospital, with potential cross-site work at Ipswich depending on the applicant's interests.
You will participate in clinical responsibilities, including theatre sessions and the out-of-hours on-call rota, which involves resident evening sessions from 5-10pm, weekend daytime sessions from 8am-8pm, and on-call cover from home for other times. Weekend shifts include day and night on-call, with remuneration according to current terms and a 3% availability supplement for non-resident on-call.
ESNEFT provides hospital and community health services across east Suffolk and north Essex, employing over 12,000 staff. We offer extensive training, flexible working, a generous pension scheme, unsocial hours payments, 27 days annual leave, and a comprehensive staff wellbeing programme. Our digital transformation with Epic aims to enhance hospital life for staff and patients.
