Job description

The appointee will, together with a consultant colleague, be responsible for providing a comprehensive, efficient, and high-quality clinical Immunology service at Salford Royal Hospital, part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA). Duties will encompass all aspects of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Honorary contract with Manchester Foundation Trust (site of the Greater Manchester Immunology laboratory) can be arranged for limited involvement with the regional immunology laboratory.

  1. Participate in and contribute to maintaining and developing allergy and immunology services, including management and triage of referrals.
  2. Participate in maintaining or acquiring accreditation for immunodeficiency and allergy.
  3. Conduct weekly clinics for investigation and management of immunodeficiency and allergy in adults.
  4. Supervise and manage the long-term treatment of patients with immune deficiency and allergy.
  5. Participate in day-care activities, supervising immunoglobulin replacement therapy, allergen immunotherapy, and challenge/provocation testing.
  6. Advise on inpatient care in consultation with colleagues from other specialties.
  7. Contribute to writing and updating clinical guidelines and protocols.
  8. Supervise and support the specialist nursing team.
  9. Participate in training nurses, immunology trainees, and undergraduate medical students.
  10. Maintain and support continuous quality improvement by achieving and maintaining QPIDS and IQAS accreditation.

The post holder will be expected to maintain continuing medical education according to the requirements of the relevant Royal College(s), participate in relevant CPD activities, clinical audit, clinical governance, quality assurance schemes, proficiency testing, appraisal, job plan review, and revalidation. Mandatory training must be completed. There is no mandatory out-of-hours work. Cross-cover for annual, professional, and study leave is expected.
