Job summary

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a special interest in high‑risk obstetrics to join Musgrove Park Hospital. The post combines a broad obstetric and gynaecological role with dedicated time for developing our high‑risk service, including a dedicated multiple pregnancy antenatal clinic.

You will lead clinical governance and teaching, contribute to elective and emergency obstetrics, and participate in the 1:12 on‑call rota while

Qualifications

• Medical degree with GMC full registration and licence to practise.
• Entry on GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics & Gynaecology or eligible within six months of interview.
• CCT or equivalent (or within 6 months of interview).
• Advanced training in high‑risk antenatal services or maternal medicine (ATSM / SITM or equivalent).
• MD, PhD or equivalent; MSC or equivalent higher qualification.
• Depth and breadth of clinical experience in managing high risk obstetrics, including elective and emergency general obstetrics and management of general gynaecology.
• Ability to work without direct supervision, including on‑call duties.
• Leadership, clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and teaching experience.
• Experience in obstetric leadership or setting up obstetric services; experience with multiple pregnancy management.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality obstetric and gynaecological care across inpatient, outpatient and emergency settings.
• Participate in on‑call rota (1:12) and lead consultant ward rounds.
• Lead general gynaecology clinics, day surgery and elective caesarean lists.
• Engage in teaching, supervision and appraisal of junior doctors.
• Contribute to governance, audit and service development.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver patient‑centred care.
• Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives.
