An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Haematologist based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. We are seeking a dynamic individual committed to excellence in service delivery to join our team. All candidates should be competent in managing patients with haematological disorders; development of a speciality interest would be encouraged.
The haematology service is constantly evolving and this post, in conjunction with existing and new posts, will support the development of the North Wales Haematology Service.

The post holder will be based in Wrexham and will be part of an enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

1. To provide specialist haematologist services to the population served with special reference to the common cancers and agreed appropriate subspecialties and to be an active participant in each of these multidisciplinary teams.
2. To develop a site specialist and research interest on both hospital sites, including developing clinical research and entering patients into appropriate national and international studies.
3. To provide a weekly ward round for inpatient cover.
4. To work closely with clinical consultant colleagues and to provide seamless haematologist care for all patients.
5. To work closely with colleagues in other Divisions to assist in providing an efficient service for patients transferring between the different disciplines and during the patient’s journey.
6. To liaise with colleagues in Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care to provide inpatient cover for haematology patients.
7. To develop and participate in collaborative initiatives, having a high regard for clinical effectiveness and to the practice of evidence-based medicine.
8. To participate in audit and teaching.
9. To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).

Person specification

Qualifications / Clinical Skills

• Full and Specialist registration (and with a license to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
• Applicants that are UK trained, must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
• Applicants that are non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
• CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC).

Special Knowledge / Abilities / and experience

• Appropriate experience in training SpR/SR level grade posts.
• A haematology sub-speciality interest.
