Role: Locum Consultant in Haematology

Shifts: Full time, Monday to Friday

Working flexible shifts at Wrightington Wigan & Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, you will enjoy close working relationships with your fellow healthcare professionals as you work to ensure the highest standards of care are provided to patients of all ages with both benign and malignant conditions. You will also serve as a pillar of clinical and educational support for junior Haematologists.

As a Haematology Consultant, you will divide your time between the ward, outpatient clinic, and laboratory, often attending other specialty areas including high dependency and intensive care units. Working alongside a cohesive team of dynamic, motivated, and progressive consultants, all with their own subspecialty interests, you will provide advisory and consultancy services to hospital specialists and general practitioners.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

• Provide diagnosis, screening, treatment, preoperative, operative, and postoperative management of patient care.
• Actively support patients and their families, communicating clinical information to explain diagnoses and treatment options using various methods to ensure understanding.
• Coordinate treatment plans and prescribe various types of treatment.
• Provide continuous monitoring and care for patients.
• Communicate with patients and the multidisciplinary team on shared patient decision-making.
• Lead and work within a multidisciplinary team where appropriate.
• Assess and prioritize patient requirements, delegating effectively.
• Recognize, review, and report changes in patient conditions to the team.
• Perform administrative tasks such as record-keeping, writing prescriptions, and monitoring treatment plans.
• Conduct research to develop and test techniques and equipment to improve outcomes.
• Assist in teaching and training junior doctors, medical students, and team members.

Qualifications/Licenses/Certifications

• Be a GMC-registered Doctor (you do NOT need to be on the Specialist Register).
• Have relevant experience at Consultant level or supporting references for your transition to Consultant.
• Hold evidence of the right to work in the UK (visa sponsorship not available for locum jobs).
• Pass an enhanced DBS check.
