Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust (UHB) is recruiting 3 Haematology Consultants, to join their dynamic team. The successful post holder will join an innovative team of Consultant Haematologists, each of the roles will deliver different specialties within Haematology as per the job plans included below, for one of the largest trusts in the UK.

The successful candidate can expect to work within an innovative and supportive team, compromising of Consultant Haematologists, SpRs, Physician Associates, Speciality Doctors, Resident Doctors, CNS, Nurses, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and Pharmacists, whilst being supported by dedicated administrative teams.

UHB's Haematology Service delivers tertiary specialised services include regional Comprehensive Haemophilia Centre including provision of gene therapy, TTP, specialist integrated haematological malignancy diagnostic service (siHMDS), Level 3 & 4 stem cell transplantation, CAR-T cell therapy, teenage and young adult (TYA) cancer care, apheresis/plasma exchange and a nationally recognised active academic programme; inpatient care is based at the QEHB site, which has 60+ inpatient beds and there is an additional dedicated Young Persons Unit for TYA care.

There are bespoke day-case, outpatient and laboratory Haematology services across the acute hospital sites of Birmingham: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Heartlands Hospital (BHH), Good Hope Hospital (GHH) and non-acute site of Solihull Hospital (SH), with a network of clinics, CNS/nurse-led services, ACP and AOS provision at all sites, with Consultant led care.

The new consultant can expect to join a supportive team of 36 consultant haematologists, working across our four hospital sites (QE, BHH, GHH and SHH). There are regular team meetings, including monthly consultant meetings, regular governance meetings, sub-speciality MDTs. There is also an opportunity to take on additional lead roles within the department, specialising in areas such as chemotherapy lead, M&M lead, governance lead and education leads.

Clinical

The appointee should be able to demonstrate experience and specific interest in the management of patients with Lymphoma OR Myeloma related haematological disorders (depending on post applying for), general haematology and laboratory haematology. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop disease specific areas of interest, working alongside the current team working across sites.

Inpatients

The appointee will participate in the attending and on-call rota , supported by and working with clinical team's trust-wide. They will be responsible for reviewing inpatients and providing specialist liaison advice.

Outpatients

The appointee will be expected to participate in 3-4 clinics per week, predominantly dealing with haemostasis and thrombosis, alongside some general haematology. The delivery of outpatient activity will include opportunities to support clinical trial recruitment and PI roles within the department. There is an active research portfolio within non-cancer haematology including commercial and investigational medicinal product studies.

There will be the integrated weekly multidisciplinary team clinical and laboratory meeting, plus monthly quality meetings, educational sessions, journal clubs and mortality and morbidity meetings.

For the ward attending commitments, the appointee will be expected to provide reciprocal cover for periods of leave.
