Job summary

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is seeking a Consultant Geriatrician to oversee care for frail older adults across acute and community services. You will lead comprehensive assessments, contribute to frailty pathways, and support safe discharge with multidisciplinary teams.

The post requires GMC registration in Geriatric Medicine, MRCP (UK), and senior-level experience with teaching responsibilities for junior staff.

Qualifications

MRCP (UK) is essential.
Registration on GMC Specialist Register for Geriatric Medicine is required.
Essential medical experience at Registrar or Consultant level.

Responsibilities

Provide expert medical care for older people across acute, perioperative, frailty, orthogeriatric, falls and community services.
Lead and deliver Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment for frail and complex patients.
Participate in Frailty SDEC, virtual ward, acute geriatric wards, orthogeriatrics and perioperative frailty services.
Ensure safe, timely discharge and continuity of care with multidisciplinary and community teams.
Provide specialist advice to medical and surgical teams before and after surgery.
Provide clinical leadership for geriatric services and act as senior decision-maker for complex cases.
Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement and service development.
Support education, training and supervision of junior doctors and other staff.
Lead, mentor and support junior medical staff and multidisciplinary team members.
