Job summary

The consultant geriatrician post in the Acute Frailty Service at Warwick Hospital, run by South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust, involves comprehensive geriatric assessment of frail older adults arriving in emergency care and leading a multidisciplinary team across the assessment area, frailty ward, ED and community urgent response.

The role includes on-call general internal medicine duties and opportunities to contribute to education and research with Warwick and Buckingham Medical

Qualifications

• CCT in Geriatrics and General Internal Medicine, or within 6 months of expected CCT completion at interview.
• GMC registration and eligibility for the GMC specialist register in Care of the Elderly with general medicine.
• Expressed interest in undergraduate and postgraduate education and teaching.

Responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary team across the Frailty Assessment Area and related wards.
• Carry out comprehensive geriatric assessment of frail older adults in crisis.
• Provide on-call commitment in general internal medicine.
• Collaborate with emergency, acute medicine and community teams.
• Support the evolution of the Acute Frailty service, including new technologies and capacity expansion.
• Contribute to data collection, project work and workforce development.

Job description

A consultant geriatrician post in the Acute Frailty Service at Warwick Hospital, run by South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust. The consultant carries out comprehensive geriatric assessment of frail older adults arriving in emergency care, working alongside emergency, acute medicine and community teams. The full-time post of 10 programmed activities includes general internal medicine on-call and leading a multidisciplinary team across the assessment area, frailty ward, emergency department and community urgent response. Applicants need eligibility for the specialist register in Care of the Elderly with general medicine, or to be within six months of CCT.

What the job involves

• Play a key role in treating older adults who need emergency care
• Carry out comprehensive geriatric assessment of frail older adults in crisis
• Lead a multidisciplinary team across the Frailty Assessment Area, acute frailty ward, acute medicine, emergency department and community urgent response
