Job summary

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, is seeking a substantive consultant gastroenterologist. The role focuses on endoscopy and outpatient clinics with GI bleed cover on a 1 in 8 rota and a 24/7 weekend bleed service.

The team already covers bowel cancer screening, IBD, hepatology and ERCP, with scope for other sub-specialties and travel to other Trust sites.

Qualifications

• MRCP or equivalent.
• UK CCT in gastroenterology and general internal medicine or equivalent, or within six months of interview.
• GMC registration with a licence to practise; entry on Specialist Register or CCT within six months of interview.
• JAG accreditation for upper and lower diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.

Responsibilities

• Carry out endoscopy sessions and outpatient clinics.
• Provide GI bleed cover, including a 1 in 8 rota.
• Cover the 24/7 bleed service at weekends while on call.
• Travel to other Trust sites for GI bleed cover and endoscopy sessions or clinics.

What the job involves

Registration & licences

Experience

• Broad exposure to gastrointestinal diseases and their management
• Comprehensive patient management
• Training and supervising junior medical staff and medical students

Skills & knowledge

• Awareness of the managerial role of a consultant in the NHS
• Regular attendance and participation at audit meetings
