We are accepting applications for the position of Consultant Gastroenterologist. This post is part of the Salisbury GI Unit, which combines gastroenterology, upper gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery, emergency general surgery, and endoscopy.

The service provides comprehensive care for gastrointestinal disorders in both emergency and elective settings. The successful candidate will join our team to deliver integrated digestive disease services across Salisbury. We aim to improve local and regional service provision.

Our team has a strong record of innovation and seeks ambitious consultants passionate about developing a modern, outstanding gastroenterology service. Subspecialty interest is encouraged to enhance our department and Trust's services. Currently, all subspecialty interests within gastroenterology are vacant.

This role offers a RRP of £5000 and a relocation package up to £8000. Terms apply.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Undertake outpatient sessions via telephone, video, or face-to-face at Salisbury District Hospital and peripheral hospitals as needed.
  2. Perform upper and lower GI endoscopy in the hospital's endoscopy suite.
  3. Provide acute gastroenterology services on a 2-week rota, including ward rounds, assessment of referrals, and cover for upper GI bleeds during working hours (0900-1800).
  4. Contribute to department and hospital management.
  5. Teach undergraduates and trainees.
  6. Participate in annual job plan review, appraisal, and revalidation.
  7. Engage in clinical governance processes.

Qualifications & Specialist Training
  • Completion of higher specialist training in gastroenterology and general internal medicine, or within 6 months of expected CCT at interview.
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
Experience/Clinical Skills
  • Sound clinical judgment, logical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Experience and competence in general gastroenterology, JAG accreditation for OGD & colonoscopy.
  • Expertise in managing upper GI bleeding and acute GI emergencies.
Management of change and quality improvement
  • Willingness to implement evidence-based practices.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, motivate staff, and lead clinical services.
Communication and personal skills
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
