Job description

Triple West Medical have been appointed by an NHS Trust based in the South West of England to help recruit a Consultant Gastroenterologist with GIM for a substantive or fixed term contract.

The NHS organisation is one of the largest acute Trusts in the country, with a workforce of over 10,000 staff providing different clinical services across multiple sites and serving a population of over 450,000 people across the local region.

They are now looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Consultant Gastroenterologist as part of departmental expansion and continued development of specialised services.

Brief Overview

The Gastroenterology team has recently been expanded and provides a full range of general Gastroenterology services, with specialist Hepatology providing a visiting outpatient service to the population and adjacent rural areas; in hours GI bleed service 365 days a year and a clinical trials unit. Outpatients & inpatient services are managed by the Division of Medicine and endoscopy sits under the Division of Surgery with close working relationships with the management teams of these services.

The successful candidate will develop special interests to extend the spectrum of the gastroenterology services offered at the hospital, and support services currently being developed in the department. The post holder will undertake a total of two general gastroenterology clinics per week and support the endoscopy service with both upper and lower endoscopy procedures. The Hospital is JAG accredited and is proud to have retained this for over 10 years. There will be inpatient responsibility for the gastroenterology ward on a 1:3 rotational basis. The post includes a commitment to the emergency endoscopy rota (1:6) plus the GIM on-call rota out of hours (1:11).
