Role Description

As a Consultant Ecologist, you will join our team of over 50 ecologists with extensive experience in ecological surveys, assessments, and advising on soil, land use, hydrological issues, arboriculture, ecosystem services, natural capital, biodiversity strategies, and cultural heritage. We have completed over 2,000 projects across the UK, Europe, and beyond for both public and private clients.

Within our Environmental team, your work will contribute to improving quality of life, focusing on environmental management, protected species, pollution, water management, air quality, or noise, often in some of the world's busiest and most beautiful locations.

Our mission is to protect natural environments and water resources while powering the future. We address climate change, urbanization, biodiversity loss, and the increasing frequency of large-scale events like floods and wildfires.

Role Accountabilities

You will be responsible for managing and completing assigned projects within your business unit or team. Your portfolio will include ecology schemes related to construction and development, encompassing standalone projects and internal client work. Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake and assist with ecological surveys
  • Produce Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), biodiversity strategies, and related documents
  • Assist with licence applications, mitigation, and monitoring plans
  • Supervise mitigation and monitoring of licensed work, liaising with authorities
  • Participate in training on survey standards and best practices
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience in writing PEAs and contributing to ecological reports like EIAs and biodiversity net gain reports
  • Understanding of environmental legislation, policies, and guidance
  • Ability to identify taxa/species with field guides and keys
  • Capability to conduct extended Phase 1 habitat surveys
  • Possession of a species survey licence is preferred
  • Responsibility for biosecurity and health & safety adherence
  • Relevant degree, secondary qualification, or accreditation
  • Membership of CIEEM at appropriate level
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to travel as needed
