Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Colorectal Surgeon to join our team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. The successful candidate will provide high-quality clinical care, contribute to service development, and educate and train resident staff. The post holder is expected to have broad experience of General Surgery and a specialist interest in Colorectal Surgery with the ability and drive to contribute to the further development of the expertise in this area. The appointee will be proficient in all aspects of Colorectal Surgery, including colonoscopy and laparoscopic resections. The appointee will also be expected to fully participate in and support the General Surgery Consultant on call rota. We are a department that provides a consultant-led service, collaborating across the surgical teams seeking to lead surgical innovation. Our department prides itself in allowing everyone to develop and bring their own areas of expertise and interest to what is already a very diverse mix of special interests. The department has historically led the way in holding senior medical management roles and we would look to new consultants to join our group of educational supervisors.

Main Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide expert clinical care in General and Colorectal Surgery, including elective theatre lists, emergencies, outpatient clinics, and on-call services.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions in hospital and community settings.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of integrated clinical guidelines and protocols.

Teaching and training
  • Provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, resident doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.
  • Participate in postgraduate education and training programmes.
Research and innovation
  • Support or lead research within the department.
  • Contribute to publications and presentations at professional conferences.
Management and leadership
  • Participate in departmental meetings and service planning.
  • Contribute to workforce planning and service redesign initiatives.
  • Take on leadership roles as appropriate within the department or Trust.

The Department of Colorectal and General Surgery at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.   • Clinical services: We provide a full range of consultant led colorectal and general surgery services including surgery (including robotics) and outpatient clinics. This does include paediatric emergency surgical activity.
