Job summary

Dudley Group is recruiting a fixed-term Consultant Colorectal Surgeon to join a busy General Surgical team in the West Midlands. The post focuses on colorectal and emergency surgery with a 1 in 12 on-call rota and day-time on-site cover.

You will lead emergency cases, perform day-case and inpatient work, and participate in audits, CME/CPD, and teaching of trainees and students. Flexible cover and administrative duties are included.

Qualifications

• FRCS intercollegiate or equivalent is required.
• Degree from a recognised university is essential.
• Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCST/CST is expected.
• Up-to-date knowledge of colorectal surgery and emergency topics is required.
• Understanding and alignment with the Trust's vision and targets is essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide Consultant-level on-call duties (1 in 12) with daytime on-site cover.
• Lead and assess emergency surgical patients admitted on-take and through the Emergency Surgical Hub.
• Conduct post-take rounds and post-take sessions; participate in clinical audit and CME/CPD.
• Contribute to education and training of medical students and junior staff.
• Perform outpatient, day-case and inpatient colorectal activities in a busy district general hospital.
• Provide flexible cover for planned and unplanned leave and undertake administrative duties.

Job description

An opportunity for the appointment of a fixed-term Consultant Colorectal Surgeon to join a busy district general hospital in the West Midlands. The post holder will be joining the existing General Surgical team and is expected to excel in Colorectal and Emergency Surgery.

• Consultant-level on-call duties in the Surgical Unit (1 in 12), with a dedicated Consultant on-site (daytime cover), post-take ward rounds, and dedicated post-take sessions. To provide leadership and assessment of emergency surgical patients admitted whilst on-take, and the Emergency Surgical Hub (ESH). The breakdown of the rota is as follows: o Cycle 1 - Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday 24 hours (08:00-19:00 on site) and next day 08:00 -13:00 post-take rounds and hot clinic o Cycle 2 - Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday 24 hours (08:00-19:00 on site) and next day 08:00 - 13:00 post take and hot clinic o Weekend inpatient and CEPOD cover provided by the two consultants on the rota
• This is a 1 in 6-weekend rota and remunerated at 4.0 PAsTo conduct outpatient and elective day-case and inpatient activity.
• Working collaboratively with clinical and managerial colleagues to further develop and improve the service.
• Administrative duties as required within the Directorate.
• Flexible provision of cover for planned and unexpected leave of consultant colleagues.
• Participation in clinical audit and CME/CPD appropriate to experience at consultant level, together with contribution to education and training of medical students and junior staff., Please refer to the job description attached for a full description of duties and responsibilities of the role.
