Job description

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust and South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust have collaborated to form University Hospitals Tees. Within this structure the pathology departments have developed the Tees Valley Pathology Service with a central processing hub on the James Cook site and two Essential Service Labs (ESL) on the North Tees (NTH) and Friarage (FHN) hospital sites to support acute and clinically urgent work as appropriate. The post is primarily based at NTH, with support required across all sites as plans are completed. The post holder will provide clinical advice and interpret biochemistry laboratory results and final authorisation of patient reports for both primary and secondary care users.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the consultant and clinical scientist team in the development of the biochemistry service across the trust, liaising with acute and primary care clinicians in the development of new policies and procedures that impact service users and patient care.
  • Provide guidance to laboratory personnel to help resolve technical/analytical problems.
  • Maintain and improve scientific standards within Clinical Chemistry across Tees Valley Pathology and maintain the quality of the service to the (ISO) standards set nationally by UKAS.
  • Participate in a procurement exercise to replace the current LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) with involvement for staff over the next 12–18 months.
  • Participate in the on-call out-of-hours Clinical Chemistry service for Tees Valley Pathology.
  • This role may involve clinically leading Point of Care Testing and may be rotated around Consultant staff members.
  • The role may involve supporting consultant colleagues in the delivery of the Lipid service.
  • As University Hospitals Tees operates across multiple sites, you may be required to work at any site across both Trusts.
  • Engage with staff through inclusive leadership, promote quality improvement, and facilitate team working within teams/departments and across organisational boundaries.
