Job summary

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a consultant neuropsychologist to deliver a regional adult and paediatric neuropsychology service. The post holder will develop a sub-specialty in epilepsy surgery and awake craniotomy support, while providing specialist assessments and therapies for neurological patients and their families within a large MDT.

Qualifications

• Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology accredited by the BPS.
• Full HCPC registration and license to practice as a clinical psychologist.
• Substantial experience working as a clinical neuropsychologist.
• BPS Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology with MDT consultancy experience.
• Experience in epilepsy surgery MDT.
• Experience conducting the WADA test.
• Experience of pre- and post-assessment in awake craniotomy for brain tumours.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert neuropsychological and rehabilitation assessments using a range of tests, rating scales, observations and interviews.
• Undertake specialist neuropsychological assessment, rehabilitation and therapy for patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions and support families and carers.
• Work within an MDT, liaising with neurologists, gerontologists, psychiatrists and GPs.
• Develop sub-specialty interests in epilepsy surgery and awake craniotomy-related work.
• Contribute to training and supervision as needed and maintain high professional standards.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arise to join a team of neuropsychologists, assistant psychologists and undergraduate placement students delivering a regional and supra-regional adult and paediatric neuropsychological service in a specialist neurosciences centre. The post-holder will have/develop a sub-specialty interest in epilepsy surgery and awake craniotomy surgery for brain tumours, and will have a primary responsibility for providing a service to those teams. We are open to applications from candidates without specific experience in supporting epilepsy surgery or brain tumour surgery who are interested in developing the necessary skills and knowledge in these areas, and would facilitate suitable supervision/training. The post holder will also undertake specialist neuropsychological assessment, rehabilitation and therapy of patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions and to their families and carers, referred by neurologists, gerontologists, psychiatrists general practitioners and others, both from within Oxford University Hospitals Trust and externally.

• To provide expert neuropsychological and rehabilitation assessments of patients, based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients, family members and others involved in the client's care. Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS or a statement of equivalency in Clinical Psychology awarded by the BPS.
• Full HCPC registration and license to practice as a clinical psychologist.
