Job summary
We are seeking a new substantive Consultant Anaesthetist to join our friendly and proactive department at Ipswich Hospital, part of East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT). This post has been developed as we expand our permanent workforce and recruit new consultants following retirements. We are reforming obstetric facilities on-site and expanding our main theatre suite with new expansion theatres (Elective Surgical Hub) and refurbishment of existing theatres. We are a supportive department looking for a long-term colleague who can bring their skills and attributes to the team.
The initial job plan involves a variety of specialties, especially major general/urology, orthopaedics/trauma surgery. Details will be negotiated upon appointment. Those with a specialist interest aligned with service development are encouraged to adapt their job plan as opportunities arise.
The post is based at Ipswich Hospital, with potential for sessions at Colchester Hospital in the future. It includes non-resident on-call duties in theatres and obstetric anaesthetic services at Ipswich.

The appointee will share in the rota of Consultant cover for out-of-hours Anaesthesia/Obstetric Anaesthesia and provide emergency cover during colleagues' leave, based on mutually agreed arrangements. New consultants will join the night-only on-call rota, currently 1:16.
