An exciting opportunity to join the Acute Medicine team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals within the Division of Integrated Medicine and Emergency Care.
In addition to our Consultant vacancy, we are also looking for the right person to lead our services as the new Head of Acute Medicine. This role will be a 2 PA time commitment whilst also attracting a responsibility payment of £10K. The appointment of this role would be for a term of three years, subject to satisfactory annual reviews.
Our Emergency Village work is complete, and we now have a modern Same Day Emergency Care department co-located with the Emergency Department, plus a large Acute Medical Unit and Short Stay Unit situated above.
The Consultant team oversees and leads in the daily reviews of the medical take through these areas, supporting and encouraging patient care being provided in the right place, first time, ensuring national and local targets are recognized and achieved.
The service is staffed by a large team of Consultants, Registrars, junior doctors, ACPs, and Physician Associates. The medical on-call service is also coordinated through here and is staffed by a mixture of trainees and substantive colleagues. Many students also have their placements in the service, making us a busy, fast-paced learning environment.

Duties and Responsibilities as a Consultant
Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is ideally situated just a forty-five minute drive from Manchester. The Trust provides services to the 440,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre, and North Lancashire, as well as specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Haematology patients.
As one of the United Kingdom's largest coastal resorts, Blackpool has plenty to offer its residents - it's not just a good place to work; it's a great place to live. In addition to its bustling center and historic seafront, the town is world-famous for its many attractions, including the famous Blackpool Tower. Blackpool also offers a number of scenic cycling routes around our local parks and across the surrounding countryside, as well as boasting panoramic views of the coast on its picturesque Promenade. Further afield, Blackpool also benefits from less than three-hour connections via rail to Edinburgh in the north and London in the south.
