Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is recruiting a Consultant to join the Acute Medicine Service and AMU team. The role offers leadership in reshaping acute medical services, close collaboration with the Clinical Lead, and opportunities to contribute to teaching, research and service development.

Responsibilities

• Share in the organisation and provision of high-quality clinical care for acute medical patients within the Trust.
• Assess and review patients within the AMU and SDEC, including performing appropriate clinical procedures.
• Facilitate the early discharge of acute medical patients when appropriate.
• Provide senior support and input into clinical decisions taken by junior medical staff.
• Ensure accurate and timely communication between AMU/SDEC and other units and primary or intermediate care settings.
• Work to provide smooth transfer of patients to appropriate specialty beds.
• Develop and implement care pathways for common medical emergencies.
• Participate in the out-of-hours medical on-call rota at weekends (site dependent).
• Contribute to a sub-speciality service with clinics, procedural lists and specialist ward referrals if requested.

Medical qualification / GMC

Entry onto Specialist Register / CCT

MRCP/MRCS or equivalent

SAM specialist skill

MD or equivalent

ACC S Training (ACCS)

Acute Medical Unit training

SCE Acute Internal Medicine

FAMUS or POCUS Accreditation
