Job summary

The British Standards Institution (BSI) in Hemel Hempstead seeks a Test Engineer to perform hands-on mechanical testing of construction products in a dedicated laboratory. You will configure test rigs, prepare samples and run tests to ensure products meet both national and international standards.

Ideal candidates hold an HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with strong reporting skills and a customer-focused approach.

Qualifications

• Minimum of HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related experience in a test environment.
• Strong reporting skills and ability to write clear, concise test reports.
• Good communication and customer-focused approach; able to work to defined processes.

Responsibilities

• Carry out physical and performance testing of construction products.
• Prepare samples and set up test equipment and rigs correctly.
• Run tests safely, in line with procedures and maintain traceable records.
• Write test reports and keep equipment calibrated.
• Support continuous improvement of methods and equipment.
