What will I be doing as an apprentice?
As a Construction Materials Technician apprentice, you’ll be working in a laboratory environment that is hands-on and requires a willingness to get mucky. It’s not a sterile environment, so comfort with getting involved physically is essential.
You’ll be supported by existing apprentices and experienced materials technicians, learning on the job. This role offers practical experience that is often not available in traditional academic settings.
In the Holcim laboratory team, you’ll test construction materials like concrete, aggregates, and asphalt to ensure they are safe, reliable, and durable for long-term use.
No two days are the same; you’ll split your time between testing on-site, in the lab, and visiting various locations nearby, providing excellent opportunities for professional growth and networking.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
About You
We seek a focused, meticulous individual who is positive, proactive, and eager to learn. You should have a curious mind, be digitally savvy, confident in communication, and flexible to work outside regular hours including nights and weekends.
Note: A manual driving license and access to your own car are required due to the nature of the role.

We value the right attitude and aptitude over formal qualifications. Enthusiasm, honesty about your current knowledge, consideration, and eagerness to learn are key traits.
Qualifications
We are looking for motivated individuals interested in gaining new skills. If you already hold a Level 3 or higher qualification in a related field, or have substantial relevant experience, you may not be eligible for funding, as the program is designed for upskilling those needing it.
