Job description

Construction Manager/Principal Contractor - Ground Investigation Works

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery, and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

Join our team as a Construction Manager, where you'll oversee and manage all on-site GI activities to ensure they are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, UK legislation, and company procedures. Your role will be crucial in maintaining high standards of quality control, coordinating subcontractors, managing health and safety compliance, and ensuring all site activities are accurately documented and executed.

This role requires regular travel to sites across England and Wales.

About the Opportunity

You will manage ground investigation works, including drilling, sampling, in-situ testing, and monitoring, ensuring all activities adhere to relevant British Standards and industry best practices. Responsibilities include managing GI equipment, coordinating with project managers and stakeholders, resolving technical issues, developing and implementing the Construction Phase Plan (CPP) in line with CDM 2015 regulations, conducting site inductions and toolbox talks, enforcing safe systems of work, maintaining accurate records, and managing waste and environmental compliance.

You will oversee the quality of GI data, manage subcontractors and suppliers, conduct site inspections, and ensure safety and quality standards are met. Effective communication and coordination among all parties involved are essential, along with managing welfare facilities, site access, and maintaining a site register of contractors and visitors.

We value collaboration and believe in in-person interactions for culture and client delivery. Our hybrid working policy allows employees to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations to deliver their best work.

Here's what you'll need

  • Proven experience managing ground investigation works.
  • Knowledge of Ground Investigation techniques and CDM 2015 regulations.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • CSCS Supervisor or higher, SMSTS or SSSTS, and First Aid at Work qualifications.
  • Relevant training such as NSI 30 and HSG47/GS6.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Personal Attributes:

  • Leadership and organizational skills.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented.
  • Commitment to safety and quality.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels.
