Job summary

Walker & Sloan is looking for a Construction Manager to lead multiple groundworks, civil engineering and refurbishment projects across Gloucestershire. You will ensure on-time, on-budget delivery while building high-performing teams and maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.

The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication with clients and subcontractors, and a hands-on approach to oversee programmes from planning through to completion.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Construction Manager, Contracts Manager, or Senior Site Manager.
• Strong grounding in groundworks, civil engineering, refurbishment, or maintenance projects.
• Excellent knowledge of construction methods, health & safety legislation, and current industry standards.
• Commercial awareness with strong planning and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the successful delivery of multiple construction projects across the region.
• Develop and manage project programmes to achieve key milestones.
• Manage project budgets, resources, and operational performance.
• Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Conduct site inspections to monitor quality, safety and programme performance.
• Identify and mitigate project risks and rapidly resolve site issues.
• Review drawings, specifications, contracts and technical documentation.
• Lead project meetings and provide progress updates to senior management and clients.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and company procedures.
• Support procurement activities to meet programme requirements.

The Role

As Construction Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple construction projects, overseeing programmes from initial planning through to completion.

Working closely with operational teams, commercial colleagues, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, you\'ll ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the exceptional standards the business is known for.

This is a varied and hands-on leadership role, offering the opportunity to work across a broad range of construction disciplines within a well-established regional contractor.

Key Responsibilities

• Reviewing construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation
• Leading project meetings and providing regular progress updates to senior management and clients
• Ensuring full compliance with health & safety legislation, company procedures, and industry standards
• Supporting procurement activities and ensuring materials and plant are available to meet programme requirements

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience as a Construction Manager, Contracts Manager, or Senior Site Manager within a construction environment
• Strong understanding of groundworks, civil engineering, refurbishment, or maintenance projects
• Excellent knowledge of construction methods, health & safety legislation, and current industry standards
• Commercially aware with strong planning and organisational skills
• Confident managing multiple projects and operational teams simultaneously
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management abilities
• IT literate with experience using Microsoft Office and project management software
• NVQ Level 4 (or above) in Construction or Contract Management
• Full UK driving licence
