Job summary

Motus is seeking an experienced construction and commercial contracts solicitor for a hybrid role in Central London. The position reports to the Head of Legal and covers procurement, operations and the wider business with a hands-on, partner‑level approach.

You will draft, negotiate and interpret NEC contracts, handle disputes with internal and external teams, and help standardise contracts across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Experienced construction or commercial solicitor with a valid practising certificate in England & Wales or Scotland.
• Experience in construction and/or commercial contracts, with NEC contract familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Becoming a key legal business partner for procurement, operations, commercial and the wider business across the national network.
• Advising, developing, drafting and negotiating contracts including construction, major infrastructure and commercial agreements.
• Advising on contract interpretation and disputes, coordinating internal and external legal teams.
• Supporting framework agreements and standardisation of contracts across the business.
• Building cross-functional relationships within the legal department and the wider business.

A key Uk infrastructure company is seeking an additional construction lawyer due to an increasing workload. Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will undertake a broad ranging and hands-on role covering both construction and commercial contracts.

Key responsibilities:

• Becoming a key legal business partner for procurement, operations, commercial and the wider business across the national network
• Advising, developing, drafting and negotiating a wide variety of high impact and strategically important contracts that support different parts of the business including:
  • Construction contracts for repair and laying of gas mains
  • Major infrastructure contracts for bio methane and hydrogen projects
  • Commercial agreements for supply of parts, gas supplies, collaboration agreements and data sharing agreements
  • Professional services agreements
  • Service agreements
• Advising on contract interpretation and disputes arising out of contracts including obtaining external legal support when required
• Co-ordinating in house and external legal teams to deliver cost effective and pragmatic solutions
• Supporting on framework agreements, drafting bespoke amendments to standard form contracts and assisting with standardisation of contracts across the business
• Building strong cross-functional relationships within the wider legal department and within the wider business

What you will need

• You will be an experienced construction or commercial solicitor with a valid practising certificate in either England & Wales or in Scotland
• You will be experienced in construction and/or commercial contracts and specifically you will have experience in the NEC form of Contract
• You will ideally have some experience of the Utilities Regulations or public procurement or be willing to upskill in this area
• Enthusiasm, professional motivation, an ability to work well independently and as part of a team and flexibility

The role is hybrid with 3 days per week in the office in Central London. Other work locations may be a possibility within the South-East.
