Job summary

Wates is offering an Engineering (construction) Trainee programme in London. You will gain hands-on experience supporting design, coordination, installation and commissioning on diverse construction projects, while working with engineers, project managers, subcontractors and clients.

You will experience the full project lifecycle, from pre-construction to handover, developing both technical and commercial knowledge and pursuing industry-recognised qualifications as part of the apprenticeship.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English (4/C or above) by September 2027.
• Two A-Levels at grade D or above by September 2027.
• Interest in building/construction and the built environment.
• Willingness to travel as required by project locations.

Responsibilities

• Support project teams across the full lifecycle: pre-construction, design, procurement, installation, commissioning and aftercare.
• Assist in developing practical, cost-effective and sustainable engineering solutions.
• Work with CAD and BIM drawings, specifications and digital design tools.
• Assist in coordinating and managing the design process with consultants and stakeholders.
• Support installation oversight to ensure safety and design compliance.
• Help understand project budgets, cost management and value optimisation.
• Monitor works to ensure health, safety, environment and quality standards.
