Job description

This challenging and exciting opportunity requires a purchasing or buying professional from the construction, building, housebuilding, or civil engineering sectors. This Construction Buyer position is based at our client's Doncaster office. You will support all buying, procurement, and logistics aspects for multiple sites and projects throughout the UK, from enquiry stage through to timely delivery of plant, resources, materials, and equipment.

The Role
  1. Follow contract programmes and ensure timely provision of specified equipment and supplies on multiple sites.
  2. Adapt quickly and efficiently to fluctuating project timetable requirements.
  3. Arrange transportation of plant and site equipment to and from each project.
  4. Appraise potential suppliers and sub-contractors.
  5. Negotiate prices ethically and appropriately.
  6. Raise and manage purchase orders.
  7. Coordinate scheduled deliveries by liaising with suppliers.
  8. Track on-hire reports and off-hired items.
  9. Monitor supplier performance.
  10. Update transport ledgers weekly and assist with KPI data as needed.
  11. Maintain updated hired plant location sheets weekly.
  12. Ensure plant certification is current, properly stored, and renewed as required.
  13. Provide service and support to contracts teams to meet their needs.
  14. Assist estimators with quotes and supplier/material recommendations.
  15. Maintain good relationships with internal departments and external site teams.
  16. Obtain quotes and negotiate prices to ensure value for money.
  17. Ensure goods and services are delivered within project budgets.
  18. Check and process invoices, adhering to internal procedures.
