Job summary

Bayman Atkinson Smythe in Oldham, North Manchester is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join their construction-focused team. The role is office-based, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, paying circa £30k plus benefits.

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you will handle accounts payable, payroll, VAT, and CIS, ensure accurate records, and support month-end processes while upholding tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• Proven bookkeeping experience in a similar role.
• Proficient with Xero or equivalent accounting software.
• Experience with invoice processing and reconciliations.
• Knowledge of payroll and statutory submissions (VAT, PAYE, CIS, pensions).
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Own accounts payable including supplier invoices and subcontractor payments.
• Maintain supplier and subcontractor records and terms.
• Support banking activities, reconciliations, and cashflow reporting.
• Process monthly payroll and employee expenses.
• Prepare VAT, PAYE, CIS, and pension submissions.
• Manage sales ledger and customer invoicing.
• Provide finance admin support to Group Financial Controller.
• Identify process improvements to strengthen controls.
