Job description

Role profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious solicitor at Associate Director level to join our highly regarded national non-contentious construction team based in either Bristol or London. The focus is on energy and energy transition projects.

We are specifically looking for candidates who can advise on the drafting, negotiation and management of EPC, BOP, supply and O&M contracts for renewables, energy storage, wind and/or grid stability projects. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to lead negotiation meetings alongside junior associates and guide client stakeholders through the negotiation process.

Practice Overview

Our non-contentious construction practice handles national‑scale work, taking part in the early procurement advice, legal project management, and negotiation of complex construction agreements typically based on FIDIC or NEC forms in the energy sector. We coordinate closely with energy‑regulation, planning, real‑estate, corporate and project‑finance teams and remain involved during the delivery and operational phases, providing advice on contract management, variations, claims, and defects.

Team

The team is led by partners Phil Davies, Alexandra Gower, Duncan Parker and Nicholas Grewal and is based across our Bristol and London offices. Duncan and Nicholas focus on energy and infrastructure clients and the successful candidate will work closely with them to service our existing client base and help expand the practice.

Technical Skills and Experience
  • Experience managing the construction aspects of complex matters.
  • Lead contract negotiations, including agreements based on FIDIC, NEC and bespoke EPC and O&M arrangements.
  • Supervise junior lawyers where appropriate.
  • Experience working where multiple parties are involved, particularly in a project‑finance led structure.
  • High motivation, sector interest and commitment to the growth of our sector expertise.
Your career development
  • Clear expectations of your role and progression.
  • High‑quality clients and work with early responsibility and client exposure.
  • Thorough assessment and individual feedback from experienced colleagues.
  • Robust technical training with early skills‑based development tailored to you.
  • Reward for contribution, progression and potential, rather than PQE or tenure.
