Whether working on pre-planned maintenance such as vegetation clearance around aqueducts or tackling graffiti in urban areas, our Conservators ensure there’s beauty on the doorstep. This is a great opportunity to make a difference in your community while learning about local canals.

Our Conservator volunteers help maintain our network, engaging in heritage and nature conservation activities, as well as everyday tasks like painting or litter picking to improve the local environment.

They help tackle tough issues on the waterways, ensuring accessibility and good maintenance of the canal. Facing new challenges each year, your support will help us keep canals vibrant and accessible.

Some teams work on regular maintenance, while others focus on specific projects like rebuilding stone walls or planting, allowing volunteers to contribute in different ways.

What you will be doing

  1. Day-to-day maintenance
  2. Heritage restoration
  3. Graffiti removal
  4. Environmental enhancements such as hedgelaying
  5. Creating new access points with building or improving steps and ramps
  6. Declaring any unspent convictions during registration and participating in risk assessments as needed
