Job summary

The Historic Ships team at Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard is seeking a skilled painter with conservation experience to care for our fleet of historic vessels. You will work on metalwork and timber, following a planned programme and maintaining records of materials and methods used.

This role requires working in a public-facing environment, engaging visitors about conservation activities while upholding health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Level 2 City & Guilds in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting (or equivalent).
• Experience on conservation projects in marine/industrial environments.
• Ability to follow a planned work programme and maintain materials records.
• Willingness to engage with visitors in public-facing areas.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and treat historic metalwork and woodwork prior to redecoration.
• Follow a programme of planned work and manage tasks as they arise.
• Maintain records of materials and methods for safety compliance.
• Engage with visitors, sharing knowledge about conservation activities.
