Job summary

Capita in Portsmouth is seeking a Confined Space Instructor and Safety Officer to train Royal Navy personnel in confined space skills and to support safe delivery of firefighting training.

You will run high‑quality training, assess learners to City & Guilds standards, manage the training environment and equipment, and collaborate with Royal Navy/MoD colleagues to maintain a professional, engaging learning space.

Qualifications

• Experience of working in confined spaces – ideally within a marine environment
• Desirable skills/experience/qualifications include Defence Instructional Techniques or recognised equivalent
• Assessors qualification such as TAQA (Teaching Assessment Quality Assurance)
• IOSH Working Safely or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Confined Space Instructor: Deliver high-quality Confined Space training meeting Royal Navy, Capita and City & Guilds requirements; instruct, coach and assess learners toward City & Guilds qualifications; prepare and maintain training facilities and equipment.
• Safety Officer – Firefighting Training: Support Royal Navy firefighting training; ensure activities are safe and compliant with SHE policies; manage health and safety, report incidents and escalate safety concerns.
