Job summary

Vico Homes in Castleford is seeking a Compliance Officer – Fire Safety to join the Building Safety and Compliance Team. You will ensure the organisation meets all legal requirements and standards for fire safety, manage assessment schedules, oversee contractors, monitor performance and data, and provide internal assurance that we stay compliant.

Qualifications

• A Level 4 qualification in a building related discipline, a Level 3 qualification in a relevant compliance area along with an appropriate Health and Safety Management course
• Experience in the delivery and management of Property Compliance in a customer facing organisation with experience of auditing works, systems, contractors
• Knowledge and understanding of relevant Regulations, Codes of Practice and Legislation, Health & Safety Legislation and Management affecting Property Compliance
• An effective team player and communicator, who can engage, encourage and motivate others; able to respond under pressure to meet deadlines
• Hold a full valid UK driving licence with access to a vehicle and ability to travel throughout the Vico Homes operating area

Responsibilities

• Support the operational delivery of the Fire Safety Policy and Fire Safety Management Plan and undertake cyclical reviews and updates
• Provide support to the Building Safety and Compliance Team in delivering the objectives of the Building Safety Policy and Building Safety Management Plan, including Regulation 38 data and management of the golden thread of information
• Oversee the fire door inspection programme
• Lead on developing and updating fire safety-related specifications ensuring they meet legislative requirements and British Standards
• Commission specialist surveys such as Compartmentation Surveys and FRAEW, review findings and undertake quality assurance checks
• Ensure compliance with Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Fire Safety Act 2021, Building Safety Act 2022 and all other associated legislation and guidance
• Manage cyclical fire risk assessment (FRA) programmes, including reviewing and challenging reports and ensuring timely remediation actions

About the role

As the Compliance Officer – Fire Safety your manager will be our Building Safety Manager. You will work 37 hours a week on a permanent basis, working flexibly in the Vico Homes operating area based at our Head Office in Castleford.

As the Compliance Officer – Fire Safety you will be responsible for making sure our organisation meets all legal requirements and standards for fire safety. You’ll manage assessment schedules, oversee contractors, monitor performance and data, and give internal assurance that we’re staying compliant.

• You’ll help embed our fire safety management plan, ensuring robust processes are in place across our portfolio. Your work will support a consistent, risk-based approach to fire safety that aligns with current legislation and best practice.
• You’ll lead on the completion of the Compartmentation Survey Programme and assessment of findings.
• You’ll be involved in supporting the delivery of our ambitious Homes & Growth Strategy, ensuring that compliance and safety considerations are fully integrated into our plans for new developments, acquisitions, and investment in our existing stock.

What you’ll do

• Support the operational delivery of the Fire Safety Policy and Fire Safety Management Plan and undertake cyclical reviews and updates.
• Provide support to the Building Safety and Compliance Team in delivering the objectives of the Building Safety Policy and Building Safety Management Plan, including the provision of Regulation 38 data and the management of the golden thread of information.
• Oversee the fire door inspection programme.
• Lead on developing and updating fire safety-related specifications ensuring that they meet legislative requirements and British Standards.
• Commission specialist surveys such as Compartmentation Surveys and FRAEW, review findings and undertake quality assurance checks, deliver recommendations and ensure the information is reflected in the Fire Risk Assessment.
• Ensure compliance with Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Fire Safety Act 2021, Building Safety Act 2022 and all other associated legislation and guidance.
• Manage cyclical fire risk assessment (FRA) programmes, including reviewing and challenging of reports, and ensuring timely assignment and completion of identified remedial actions, ensuring robust evidence is provided.
• Monitoring and reporting on service and inspection programmes.
• Oversee contractor performance, including regular meetings, audits, inspections, and effective challenge of poor delivery.
• Translate strategy, policy and procedures relating to fire into objectives, KPIs, management information, and assist in production of report to boards and committees.
• Monitor and develop compliance processes and identify any non-compliant areas or process improvement opportunities and elevate as required.
• Manage and maintain up to date information relating to fire compliance, including ensuring the operation and development of appropriate data management systems (IBS, Riskhub, Documotive).
• Work with external stakeholders, including Fire and Rescue Services, and other regulatory and enforcing bodies as required.
• Review and investigate Fire Notifications, identifying trends, lessons learned and opportunities for improvement.
• Support the Building Safety and Compliance Team in providing assurance to the Board and internal stakeholders that Vico Homes is fully compliant with their statutory obligations and provide robust evidence base to support the position.
• Contribute towards the development of systems and processes to ensure effective Safety and compliance management within the relevant areas of the organisation.
• Undertaken inspections, audits and assessments when required, and support on external audits and the delivery of recommendations.
• Engage with residents by responding to enquiries, complaints and requests as per Vico processes.
• Participate in the evaluation of tenders and contractor selection as required.
• Keep up to date regarding developments and best practice in fire safety and the environment and share this information with the Vico governance chain.
• Provide fire safety technical advice to colleagues.
• Support in reviewing and reporting of data to regulatory bodies.

What we’re looking for

• A Level 4 qualification in a building related discipline, a Level 3 qualification in a relevant compliance area along with an appropriate Health and Safety Management course
• Experience in the delivery and management of Property Compliance in a customer facing organisation with experience of auditing works, systems, contractors
• Knowledge and understanding of relevant Regulations, Codes of Practice and Legislation, Health & Safety Legislation and Management affecting Property Compliance
• An effective team player and communicator, who can engage, encourage and motivate others. Is self-motivated and be able to respond effectively to working under pressure to meet all required deadlines
• Hold a full valid UK driving licence with access to a vehicle and the ability to travel throughout the Vico Homes operating area on a daily basis and to other locations as required
