Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Leicester is seeking a machine operator to run folding equipment and meet quality and output targets for pharmaceutical cartons. The role involves setting up complex cartons, learning leaflet insertion and tag applicator systems, and maintaining clean, organized work areas.

You will lead daily machine operations, support a second Minder and Finishing Assistant, and ensure safety and quality procedures are followed in a fast-paced environment at East Park Road, Leicester.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Understand and interpret the job bag (virtual work ticket).
• Set and run folding machine to meet quality and volume targets with minimal waste.
• Prepare complex cartons (4 corner, Crash Lock base, internal fitments).
• Learn setup for leaflet insertion machine and tag applicator.
• Maintain 5S in the work area and follow procedures.
• Carry out routine maintenance and report issues.
• Take charge of daily machine operation and crew management.
• Support second minder and finishing assistant with training.
• Ensure machine is left in good condition at end of shift.

Job Purpose

This Job Description is intended as a guide to the type of role the Job Holder is expected to perform. As the nature of our business can vary with changes in customer requirements and operating procedures, the following tasks are the key duties of the role, but it is understood that the Job holder will undertake any function in which he/she is adequately trained or competent. If in time, significant changes to the role are experienced, a new Job Description will be issued. The role will be working within a fast-paced environment, folding and packing pharmaceutical cartons, meeting the planned output for quality, volume and yield to customer requirements.

Location: East Park Road, Leicester

Working Hours: Double days | Monday to Friday from 6am – 1.30pm and 1.20 – 8.50pm

Job Responsibilities/Key Accountabilities

• To understand and correctly interpret the job bag (virtual work ticket)
• To set and run folding machine, to meet the quality standards and planned volume to optimum output, using minimum waste.
• To understand how to make ready on Complex Cartons such as 4 corner, Crash Lock base, Internal Fitments, Double wall.
• Have an understanding or prepared to learn setting up a Leaflet insertion machine, Tag applicator.
• A knowledge of the HHS Gluing Systems.
• Produce labels for packing trays and boxes.
• Operate counting machinery.
• Ensure that work area where the individual is working is kept clean and tidy and follows 5S procedure.
• Undertake all duties in accordance with current operating procedures and quality policies. The job holder should ensure that they are aware and understand all such policies and procedures.
• Carry out general and routine maintenance of the folding machines and equipment and to advise the supervisor or senior management of any preventative or additional maintenance required.
• Take charge of the day to day running of the machine (Crew Management).
• Acting support for the Second Minder and Finishing Assistant ensuring that the required training is carried out.
• Ensuring that the machine is left in a reasonable condition at the end of each shift.

• Previous experience of working with machines (ideally in a printing, pharmaceuticals or food environment)
