Job summary

Bluebird Care Mid & West Cornwall is seeking a Female Complex Care Support Worker (Care Expert) to join a 2:1 team supporting one young person with complex health needs. Role spans home, school and community settings during term time and holidays.

You will receive thorough training, induction and ongoing clinical support, with opportunities to progress into senior or coordinating roles within the Care Experts team. 20–37 hours per week available.

Qualifications

Female Complex Care Support Worker (Care Expert)

Bluebird Care Mid & West Cornwall

Part-time - Full time available, permanent

20–37 hours a week

Bluebird Care Mid & West Cornwall supports people to stay living well in their own homes, right across mid and west Cornwall, and is rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission. This role sits in our TDDI complex care service, where small, consistent teams support customers with complex health needs at home, at school and out in the community.

Role Overview

You will be part of a 2:1 team supporting one young person with complex health and communication needs. You will work with them at home, alongside them in school, and out in the community, across term time and school holidays.

Key Responsibilities

You are part of the team around one young person:

• Supporting them with personal care, practical tasks and emotional wellbeing
• Supporting them at home, in school and out in the community
• Reading body language and using their alternative communication, so they are understood
• Supporting with PEG feeding and suctioning, once you are trained
• Following the care plan closely and keeping clear, accurate records
• Promoting their safety, independence and choice in everyday decisions
• Working alongside family, school staff and health professionals

Getting to know our customer well is a key part of the role. It helps you notice changes in their health or mood early, and support them consistently at home, at school and in the community.

What you get

We have 20 to 37 hours a week available, across term time and school holidays.

You will be trained thoroughly before you start. All specialist skills, including PEG feeding and suctioning, are taught by our clinical trainers and signed off before you work unsupervised. You will also get a full induction, shadow shifts with the existing team, and ongoing support from a team who know you by name.

There is also a Blue Light Card, a staff referral scheme, recognition through our annual appraisal and Care Expert of the Month, qualified Mental Health First Aiders in the team, social events and fundraising, and wellbeing support when you need it.

• A full UK driving licence and access to a reliable car
• The right to work in the UK
• Willingness to train in specialist skills, including PEG feeding and suctioning
• The ability to follow a detailed care plan and record what you have done
• Experience in complex care, or with PEG feeding, suctioning or seizure management
• Experience of alternative or non-verbal communication, such as PECS, Makaton or eye gaze
• Experience working in a school or another setting alongside other professionals

Your background could be almost anything. People who do well in this role have come from nursing homes, supported living, hospital wards, SEN schools as teaching assistants, personal assistant work, and from caring for someone in their own family. A varied career counts for more here, not less. If you have looked after someone whose needs did not fit neatly into a box, you already understand the most important part of this job.

How we will grow you

You will start with a full induction and paid shadow shifts until you and the team feel ready. From there we fund your specialist training, support you through a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care if you want it, and give you regular supervision throughout the year. Care Experts who want to move into senior, supervisory or coordinating roles are supported to do that, and several of our office team started exactly where you would be starting.
