We are recruiting a Complex Care Assistant to join a dedicated care team supporting a young person in their family home in the Southport area.

This is a guaranteed 20-hour contracted position, offering consistent hours, reliable earnings and the opportunity to work as part of a regular 3:1 support team.

About the Role

You’ll be supporting a young person with autism, ADHD, sensory needs and behaviours that can challenge.

They are active and engaging and enjoy activities such as drawing, building, music, sensory play and spending time out in the community.

They can experience difficulties with emotional regulation, transitions, impulsivity and awareness of danger, so they require patient, attentive and consistent support.

At times of distress or frustration, they may display behaviours including hitting, kicking, scratching, pulling hair, spitting or throwing objects. You’ll receive specialist training to help you understand their individual triggers and use agreed proactive and reactive strategies safely and consistently.

A key part of your role will be helping the young person enjoy meaningful activities, maintain routines, manage transitions and safely access their home and community.

You’ll work alongside another member of the care team as part of the young person’s 3:1 support package.

Your role will include:
  • Providing safe, compassionate and person-centred 3:1 support
  • Supporting activities, routines and community engagement
  • Helping the young person manage transitions and changes in routine
  • Recognising individual triggers and early signs of distress
  • Supporting sensory and emotional regulation
  • Using agreed Positive Behaviour Support strategies
  • Promoting choice, independence and positive experiences
  • Maintaining a safe environment where impulsivity or limited awareness of danger presents a risk
  • Supporting personal care where required
  • Following care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures
  • Completing accurate care records and handovers
  • Working closely with the family and wider care team
Full Specialist Training Provided

You’ll receive training specific to the young person’s needs, which may include autism and ADHD awareness, sensory processing, Positive Behaviour Support, recognising triggers, proactive and reactive strategies, safeguarding and person-centred risk management.

You will not be expected to provide support without the appropriate training and preparation.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is calm, patient, reliable and confident, particularly when supporting a young person who may become distressed or dysregulated.

Previous experience supporting children, young people or adults with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities or behaviours that challenge would be advantageous.

Ideally, you will have at least 6 months’ hands‑on care or support experience within a UK care setting, or significant relevant experience supporting a family member.

Most importantly, you’ll need to be comfortable working within a 3:1 support environment, remain calm during challenging situations and take a patient and consistent approach. Strong communication and observation skills are important, along with the confidence to follow behaviour support plans, risk assessments and agreed strategies.

Why Join Alcedo Care?

With this role, you’ll benefit from a guaranteed 20-hour contract, consistent hours and the opportunity to become part of a regular care team supporting one young person.

You’ll also receive paid specialist training, ongoing support, a free DBS check, enhanced bank holiday rates, mileage contribution for drivers, a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme, fully funded NVQs and opportunities for career progression.

Alcedo Care has been recognised as a Top 20 Rated Home Care Group for six consecutive years, delivering over one million hours of care annually while maintaining a supportive, people-first culture.
