Job summary

Horizons Alternative Provision Academy is seeking a caring Teaching Assistant to support students in learning, development and wellbeing. You will work with the class teacher to deliver tailored activities for a range of learning needs, including those with complex needs, in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• Level 2 or equivalent qualifications in English and Maths.
• Experience with primary-age pupils or young people.
• Experience with pupils with complex needs.
• Good observation and assessment skills.
• Understanding of language development and core vocabulary.
• Calm, caring and positive approach.
• Effective positive behaviour management.
• Strong communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils to engage with teacher-led learning activities and make progress.
• Work with the class teacher to support planned programmes of work and learning activities.
• Observe pupils' learning and progress and provide feedback to teachers.
• Prepare and maintain learning resources and visual supports.
• Implement strategies from SALT, occupational therapy, and behaviour support.
• Promote inclusion and respond to individual pupil needs.
• Support positive behaviour, wellbeing, and record/report incidents.
• Assist with pupil welfare, safety and personal care as required.
• Support break and lunchtimes activities to encourage learning.
