Job summary

Disability North seeks a Personal Assistant to support Zak, a non-verbal 13-year-old with autism and neurodiversity needs. You will provide care and companionship in the home and local community, working on a 2:1 basis to help him engage in play, learning and daily routines. A driver with a clean licence is essential.

No formal qualifications are required, but understanding autism and the associated needs is important, with training and guidance provided as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide care and companionship to Zak at home and in the community on a 2:1 basis.
• Support Zak to communicate using his communication book, VOCA, picture symbols, and Makaton.
• Promote safety, set routines, de-escalate when needed and help with activities.
