Job summary

Cornwall Council Together for Families is seeking a reliable Personal Assistant to support a non-verbal 5-year-old boy with autism in the St Austell area. The role involves facilitating safe access to local activities, helping with self-care tasks, and promoting independence while managing potential hazards in the community.

The successful candidate will work under a private family arrangement (not employed by Cornwall Council) and will undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Qualifications

• Experience as a personal assistant or teaching assistant preferred.
• Ability to support a non-verbal child with autism in daily activities.

Responsibilities

• Support the child to access activities in the community.
• Assist with self-care tasks (shoes, coat, hand-washing).
• Support road safety and understanding dangers when out and about.
• Safeguarding and DBS checks to be carried out by the admin process.
