Job summary

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a Community Staff Nurse in Thame on a 12-month maternity contract. The role covers 30 hours per week with some weekend and late shifts, part-time and job share options, and flexible working.

You will develop as a Community Nurse within a newly formed team, supported by a full skills development and preceptorship programme. The post offers NHS benefits and inclusive, flexible working arrangements.

Qualifications

  • Experience post or pre-registration placements in relevant clinical areas: elderly care, orthopaedics, neurology, respiratory, palliative care or long-term conditions.
  • Desirable knowledge of assessment, planning and delivery of care.
  • Experience with electronic clinical systems (RIO).

Responsibilities

  • Provide district nursing care in patients' homes within the Thame area.
  • Work within a locality team with District Nurse Team Leaders, Therapists, Assistant Practitioners and HCAs to prevent hospital admissions.
  • Administer medications, administer end of life care and manage wounds, including negative pressure and compression therapy; venepuncture and advanced nursing skills.

Main duties of the job

Community nursing is a specialised area of practice. As a Community Staff Nurse, you will work within a locality team of District Nurse Team Leaders, Community Staff Nurses, Therapists, Assistant Practitioners and Healthcare Assistants, to meet the needs of the complex patient in the community and avoid admissions to acute settings. This includes medication administration, end of life care, managing the deteriorating patient, complex and simple wound care including negative pressure wound therapy and compression therapy, venepuncture, utilising advanced assessment skills and clinical nursing skills. We nurse people with a variety of conditions in a holistic manner in their own home and in residential care settings. Community nurses work in close partnership with social care and other primary health care professionals such as GP’s, Community Therapies and specialised services such as Tissue Viability, Diabetes and Heart Failure.

EXPERIENCE
