Job summary

Belfast City Council is seeking a Sports Development Officer to create, develop and promote sporting opportunities for people across Belfast.

You will build partnerships with clubs and community organisations, manage programmes and budgets, and drive inclusive participation in sport and physical activity. The role focuses on turning ideas into successful initiatives with monitoring and reporting responsibilities.

Qualifications

• A relevant third-level qualification or CIMSPA membership.
• Experience advising and supporting sports clubs and community organisations.
• Experience developing sporting partnerships.
• Experience sourcing, securing and managing funding for sport.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Strong organisational and work-planning abilities.
• Understanding budgets, expenditure and performance management.
• Access to a driving licence or suitable alternative transport.

Responsibilities

• Develop and promote sports and physical activity programmes that encourage inclusive community participation.
• Build strong relationships with sports clubs, community organisations, funding bodies and other stakeholders.
• Create new and innovative programmes to increase participation in sport, health and physical activity.
• Organise and promote competitions, workshops, courses, club activities and events.
• Identify opportunities linked to local, regional, national and international sporting events.
• Support organisations with funding applications, while assessing and monitoring grant awards.
• Monitor the performance and impact of sports development initiatives and prepare reports and statistics.
• Support the development of new facilities, activities and programmes.
• Manage allocated projects and budgets effectively.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, managers and external partners to deliver shared objectives.
