We're seeking a passionate and skilled specialist infant feeding practitioner for an exciting opportunity to forge powerful partnerships. Work directly with our dedicated health visiting teams and innovative family hubs to champion and deliver a vital infant feeding program that will truly make a difference in the lives of families across Bury.

Main duties of the job

Using the advanced skills required, the HV Specialist for Infant Feeding will work in conjunction with the Health Visiting Manager to support further development and to maintain effective working relationships with Maternity and Local Authority Childrens Services staff in order to promote responsive infant feeding in accordance with the UNICEFS Baby Friendly Standards (BFI).

The Post Holder Will

  • In collaboration with their HV Manager, assist in the development and implementation of infant feeding policies and guidelines that support and improve breast feeding rates
  • Work across a range of settings and organisational boundaries to support staff and volunteers in the community
  • Work closely with the service manager, infant feeding champions and the learning and development department to develop and facilitate infant feeding training
  • Provide a specialist infant feeding resource to support Health Visiting practice
  • Work with Commissioners and Midwifery colleagues to achieve the outcomes of the Infant Feeding contract
  • Be the Health representation at the Infant Feeding Strategy Group Meetings

Essential criteria

  • Registered Specialist Community Health Public Nurse (SCPHN) or Midwife on Part 1 of the NMC register

  • Teaching and assessing qualification/experience

Desirable criteria

  • IBCLC or equivalent qualification

  • Evidence of leadership skills
  • Evidence of post-registration development relevant to the post
  • Management experience
  • Experience of being involved in infant feeding initiatives and practice developments
  • Full understanding of UNICEF baby friendly initiative
  • Substantial practical experience of supporting mothers with infant feeding issues and providing specialist advice and packages of care
  • Ability to demonstrate a knowledge of community development approached to support breastfeeding including volunteer programmes
